01THE CHALLENGE
A forgotten house.
A valuable opportunity.
The property had been untouched for years. Vegetation had taken over, walls were cracked, part of the roof had deteriorated and the interiors no longer served a clear purpose.
Yet the original layout offered natural airflow, usable surrounding land and the structural foundation for a distinctive hospitality concept. Instead of erasing its character, Sugar developed a plan to retain what worked and rebuild what did not.

The old living room, deteriorated roof and disconnected layout before Sugar began the hospitality conversion.

02THE TRANSFORMATION
Breaking, rebuilding
and reimagining.
The project required partial demolition, roof stabilization, new plumbing and electrical services, re-levelled floors and a complete rethink of how guests would move through the property.
Every intervention had a commercial and guest-experience purpose—from opening shared spaces to protecting privacy around the new rooms.

Open-air bathing introduced an attainable sense of island luxury while strengthening the relationship between room and landscape.

Custom bunks, privacy curtains, personal lights, charging access and a boutique vanity moved the shared-room product beyond the typical backpacker dorm.
